DALLAS, TX - Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI) is standing with ECPAT- USA to fight modern-day slavery on the END IT Movement day. The goal of the movement is to take action and bring awareness to those affected by slavery and human trafficking. The ALHI team will wear a red X in honor of victims and survivors to help spread awareness.
Traffickers transport victims via air travel to move between cities and countries and often use hotels as venues to abuse victims. In response, ECPAT-USA launched The Code in the United States in 2004 with UNICEF and Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden. ALHI is a proud member of The Code.
Did you know?
- 40.3 million people are held against their will in slavery today
- Forced labor and trafficking is a 150-billion-dollar industry
- 71% of those affected by forced labor are women and girls
- 1 in 4 victims of modern slavery are children
"Unfortunately, the hospitality industry-- including hotels, resorts and airlines--comes into contact with those involved in human trafficking as they commit their crimes. As an industry, we can come together to make an impact by training staff to spot signs of human trafficking and contributing to resources that allow law enforcement to identify perpetrators and prosecute them to the extent of the law," said Michael Dominguez, President & CEO of ALHI. "This is our first step into taking a stand and we are eager to educate our members, clients and colleagues on how to put an end to human trafficking."
ALHI encourages everyone to stand for freedom with us on February 25th and beyond by marking their hand, clothes or other materials with a red X to start a conversation.
