Straddling the state line between California and Nevada is Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America. With its turquoise waters, blue bird skies and soaring mountains, travelers have been making their way here since the late-19th century. Today, visitors retreat from big cities to breathe in the fresh mountain air, take a refreshing dip in the lake and let their cares drift away. Add to that myriad outdoor activities year-round and 160 restaurants, and meeting planners are certain to find the right mix for their clients.

SEE

Tallac Historic Site

Tallac History Site

Three estates built between 1894 and 1923 comprise the Tallac Historic Site; all three are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Take the Grand Estates Tour to learn about the people who lived, visited and worked in Lake Tahoe in the 1920s while wandering through the Pope House, and Pacheco and Honeymoon cabin.

Vikingsholm

Vikingsholm

Inspired by travels to Scandinavia, Vikingsholm was built in 1929 as a summer home before being turned over to the state of California in 1953. Considered one of the best examples of Scandinavian architecture in the U.S., Vikingsholm is open for tours in the summer, offered by the Sierra State Parks Foundation, and is accessible by walking a one-mile trail from the parking lot.

From a paddle wheeler to a classic wooden boat, yachts to speedboats, you’ll find just the right vessel to make your group’s outing on the lake memorable, whether at sunrise, midday, or at sunset.

Reach For the Sky

Gondola

At the other end of the spectrum, reach for the sky with a ride on the scenic gondola at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The 2.4-mile upwards journey provides 360-degree views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding landscape. At the top, enjoy a casual lunch at Tamarack before descending back to lake level.
