Peter B’s Reopens After $2 Million Makeover
Portola Hotel & Spa is proud to announce that Peter B's, Monterey's original craft brewery, has officially reopened following a $2 million renovation. The refreshed space marks a new chapter for the beloved local hangout, with an updated look, a bold new menu and the same welcoming spirit that's made it a community favorite for over 25 years.
Peter B's returns with a bold new menu and fresh lineup of house-brewed beers, staying true to its roots while embracing a vibrant, modern flavor. Guests can expect American comfort food with a coastal twist, and a range of sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, salads and bowls. Behind the bar, Head Brewer Natalie Mika brings her wine and viticulture background to the forefront with award-winning brews like the Inclusion Amber Ale, plus inventive new offerings: a Raspberry Wheat with Marionberry and Chamomile, a White Peach Sakura inspired by cherry blossoms, and a Chocolate Oatmeal Stout brewed with ReGenMalt, a climate-smart grain that supports regenerative farming and local supply chains.
Peter B's delivers a one-of-a-kind dining experience with options for private dining in the Barrel Room or the lovely outdoor beer garden. "Peter B's has been a hidden gem and locals favorite for years," said Janine Chicourrat, Managing Director of Portola Hotel & Spa. "This renovation not only honors our legacy but also reimagines it—introducing affordable menu options and transforming the space into a more welcoming, inclusive, and deeply connected hub for our community than ever before."
The renovation, led by RoseBernard Studio, blends raw coastal materials like wood, copper and stone to create a warm, modern environment that celebrates both Monterey's rugged beauty and Peter B's brewing roots. A standout design element is the custom reclaimed wood table in the Barrel Room crafted by local artisan Todd Wilde using Randazzo Salvage wood and inspired by the wine barrels once used to age Peter B's beers. It's a striking blend of sustainability, local craftsmanship and storytelling—just like Peter B's itself.

Jack's Terrace
